What do you think about when you hear bed and breakfast? Shared bathroom? Strict rules? Old homes?  Those are myths! Beyond the obvious like delicious food, my experiences with several Bed & Breakfast Inns bring to mind adventure, unique locations, service and luxury.

Tres Lunas Resort in Fredricksburg, TX offers a ranch experience in hill country. An infinity pool provides a view as far as the eye can see. A beautiful chapel can be used for your daily meditation, to say or renew your vows or you can arrange for a romantic dinner for two. And of course breakfast includes sourdough biscuits made with 100-yr-old starter dough served in a cast iron pan.
  

Country House Resort in Door County, WI offers a private piece of the coveted bay shoreline, easy access via a nature trail to downtown Sister Bay and a relaxing pool. For adult vacationers, no one under 13 is allowed unless your child is four-legged. Dogs are welcome!

Mission Oak Inn in rural central Illinois offers fishing, hiking, canoeing and probably the most delicious breakfasts I’ve ever eaten. Most B & Bs offer a savory dish one day and a sweet the next. Here you get both every day!  And the sunsets are incredible!


No article about bed and breakfasts would be complete without Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm in Albuquerque, NM. There’s peacocks, lavender, delicious farm-to-table,  award-winning food and lots of charm. The chef may even collect his Rosemary right outside your door.
